Margaret has worked as a Speech and Language Therapist for over thirty years, both in the public and private sector. Client groups include those with a disability, ASD and older clients with ranges of communication difficulties including dementia.
In her direct work with clients with disability, Margaret used Life Story Work to encourage self actualisation and enhanced communication skills.
Ten years of Margaret’s working life involved managing disability services across Waterford city and county, as well as involvement in, and leading out on a number of national projects and innovations such as the development of models of service for many client groups and the implementation of the
Disability Act.
While studying Quality Management, Margaret , developed an audit tool for delivery of one strand of disability service, and also designed a Risk Management Framework for all disability services within her area of responsibility.
Margaret has taken a leading role in a number of local community organisations and worked in a voluntary capacity to develop governance structures in those organisations including leading a large Disability Service Provider to meet the requirements necessary to sign up to a voluntary Code of Governance and to reach compliance with the Charities Regulator and recent legislation.
